In part I agree with you. However, "surrender" can be a strategy as well. It can signal that you are no longer a threat. If the dominant player feels you are a threat and beats you, then the surrender "strategy" was a better strategy. If you have more territories and you want to surrender, you should beat the person who surrendered before you (assuming neither of you gets killed off).

What is the alternative? If instead of surrender the player stayed in and hit the "end turn" button, would he have beaten you? I think it's not so fun to have a game where the best strategy is to stick around on the table just to hope someone else loses first.

On the other hand, I don't think people should get credit for NOT playing.

I think it's a not so simple problem. So I'm not sure how I fee.

So I was getting foodstuffs and I had what I think is a pretty good idea. Sorry to create the tenth 10th or so surrender/away idea, but this seems to fix them all. People have whined a lot but I actually have a solution idea.

First off, when someone surrenders, it should be permanent. Make it a button instead of a check box. If they want to pretend they aren't a threat or want to stock up (both valid strategies) then they should just keep ending their turn. At least we know they're still in it/not having browser problems. Once someone surrenders they automatically get the next loser position and their rank is deducted as such. People have wondered about what to do with the dice and to that I say let them sit there. They can roll to defend but don't gain any more. This is pretty much how it is right now except that currently people can un-surrender and move to attack or get placed higher than others.

So say they don't surrender, say they just go "Away." Well, I think that after four rounds of being Away, on your fifth turn you automatically surrender (the number here can be altered if that's too long/short). I know people lag and have server problems, fine. But you can't tell me that five turns can go by without them able to get back. Maybe they'll keep missing their turn, but it doesn't have to be your turn to come back from Away.

Any feedback to make this better/flesh this out/call it crap is appreciated. Support is appreciated too. Especially from Ryan.

i think surrender should be surrender and that's it. you could have one round to take back your decision (if you klicked on the flag accidentally for example) but then it should be it and you should be ranked immediately...

If you die before someone else, you died before them, ranking is handled accordingly. Blame the guy that finished you off.

"Blame the guy that finished you off."

Or the guy that didn't finish the other player off even though they had pleeeeenty of time and no reason not to do it... not that I'm bitter or anything...

Anyway, I agree with dice_horst

"no reason not to do it"

What about the fact they apparently weren't a threat? Attacking them would just distract from the fight against, according to the original post, you. They're better off handling you first, maybe you can do something about that on your own.

@allajactasunt: not giving points to away players is a bad idea. if someone sees his loosing coming, he could just switch to "away" and have no points lost.

@moijk: you can also camp while being active.

players that have been away for too long and never came back inbetween should be considered surrended and scored as such: give them 50 minus points. if someone opts in to play he should play to the "bitter end". if its too annoying for him to follow the game play, punishment is just fine ;-)
