SCORING SYSTEM...please read

i recently clicked on the "top players" and seen the the formula to work out the score is
"1/rank_from_rating"

i input my details in to this formula assuming it should read "1 diveded by (rating-rank)"

mine read...

1 divided by (1582-1393) = 0.005291

now i clicked on the top player at this point in time which was "grunvagr"

his formula read

1 divided by (1912-1) = 0.0005232

Now, the result in my answer to the formula is greater than grunvagr...

i would like someone to elaborate this confusion i obviously hold about how the scoring works...

also, please do confuse me asking me to read wiki, would massively appreciate it if someone simplified things....

any useful feed back muchly appreciated

I vote for score points reset, preserve ELO rating and yes i know my other account is second at the moment so maybe thats why i vote for this

but you say reset both then give it 2 days grace what difference does that make after the 2 days grace the first to win gets no. 1 same as if you done it from the reset

I´m right if most players vot for a score-reset, but to preserve the old ELO-rating? Fine...

another vote for score but not elo reset - elo goes down easy enough on its' own - somewhat demoralizing to see it reset yet again. Score does not decline, and clearly needs a reset - if the current score system is maintained, perhaps a monthly reset with records kept and some kind of permanent avatar feature to indicated a top 25 finish each month (pips or small stars or some such foofarah) There seems to be no good reason to reset elo now.

From Ryan – “The ratings will not be reset. So, those that start the new month with a high rating will initially be in the lead.

If the elo don’t get reset the same time as the rank, the higher score players will be getting more rank (add to that 0.00 figure) each game they play, thus again making it easier to climb the ranks compared to a new comer. Ryan said it himself that the ones with higher rating will be in the lead….and one that’s hard to catch up.

If so, then what’s the point of resetting anything?

Rank and score are essentially the same thing. So what’s the logic of resetting one but not the other?

We have think of what’s the goal of resetting? Is it just a mechanism so that we can give out trophies every month? Or we are doing it so that everyone has a more fair chance of making the top 25?

By the way, in gpokr, you award the top 100 players. Can we do the same in kdice?

p.s. I noticed that Those who object to a full reset are usually those with a higher score……..that should tell you something, right?

Yes, that the folks with the higher elo know more about keeping kdice interesting then the folks who can't seem to get off the unlimited tables. There was no need to start questioning motives here chucky.

hey alpha - of course it will make sense to reset only the score and not the elo-rating!

to have a chance to climb upo in the top25 you have to push your elo in the month before and rest in the elo-top for a while in the new month... so it´s a fair chance for everybody.

and the score will show if you´re a skilled player and you´re able to rest at the top for some weeks. that´s a very fine idea

to push the elo is for a skilled player really no problem - some of them have got more then one avatar there...

What stops you from getting a high ELO? You have a week before the rank score reset, so just get to a 2000+ ELO and you'll be fine for next month's point race.

BTW the initial advantage is not that big, you have to *maintain* the high ELO.

Don't worry so much for the newcomers. True, they will need to get to a high ELO (if they can) before earning significant point.

There are posts above that explain why reseting ELO basically defeats the purpose of having a ELO.
People that vote for preserving the ELO rating are not *greedy* bastards wanting special treatment, but rather people that want a smooth transition, and want to play at tables with comparable skilled platyers.

Hope this helps.

Assuming a SKILLED player can easily achieve high ELO and Rank, then why bother pushing for only adjusting one but not the other? Why oppose to it? You people should be indifferent then.

Would it be true that if we had a complete reset, some existing top 25 players would have a hard time making the list again? I think that’s people’s biggest fear about a complete reset.

Some people here just want to keep their monopoly and prevent other as skilled new comers from making to the top 25.

And if one of Ryan’s goals is to make coming here fun, having a level playing field for EVERYONE will definitely accomplish that.

I'll try one more time :)
"Assuming a SKILLED player can easily achieve high ELO"
This is not exactlly true. A skilled player will eventually reach his high ELO, but it will take a number of games. That's why they don't want a reset, why have to play at lower tables just to go back to where you belong. It's like telling a college student he has to take elementary school math classes again, since that is easy for him. Yes those classes are easy but why waste the time?

I think the key is considering neither rating nor rank as an archivement, but things that just come from themselves when you play.
