Porn avatars

There is an idea about this issue:
http://aplayr.com/kdice/kdice/ideas/the%20porn%20images%20have%20got%20to%20be%20stopped./;

it's more of a discussion, as it is not very clear what can or should be done about this.

Alright, a short crash course then.

If you can read through these (feel free to use the German language versions) Maybe I can explain the specifics to you. Yes, black objects might be shiny.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porn

"In practice, pornography can be defined merely as erotica that certain people perceive as "obscene." The definition of what one considers obscene can differ between persons, cultures and eras. This leaves legal actions by those who oppose pornography open to wide interpretation. It also provides lucrative employment for armies of lawyers, on several 'sides.'"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_addiction

"Pornography addiction is a hypothesized form of sexual addiction"

"...Reid states that if such patients were legitimately addicted to pornography their ability to cognitively suppress activation of cortical structures such as the nucleus accumbens in the corpus striatum would not be physiologically possible"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornographic_actor

"Many different performers had performed in various sex films since the beginning of photography. "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornographic_film

"Pornographic films are the latest in a long series of erotic or pornographic deptictions.

Pornographic motion pictures are nearly as old as the medium itself. "

"Attitudes to the portrayal of sexual activities on film and on television have become more open on this decade. For example, the film The Idiots, a Danish film made in 1998, was shown on UK TV in the early part of this decade. It includes nudity, an orgy scene, and a full sexual intercourse scene complete with close-up footage of the act. The camera viewpoint was from the ankles of the participants, and the close ups left no-doubt as to what was taking place. These scenes were included when the film was shown on the national TV channel, BBC2. The film has won many international awards for best film and various other film industry awards."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_pornography

"Internet pornography is pornography that is distributed via the Internet"

"Porn-blocking Web filters

A variety of Content-control software is available to block pornography and other classifications of material from particular computers or (usually company-owned) networks. Commercially available Web filters include Bess, Net Nanny, and others. Various work-arounds and bypasses are available for these products; Peacefire is one of the more notable clearinghouses for such countermeasures."

There, I did my assigned reading, how's it going for you?

I bothered months already with color theory. Im fine.

Maybe I should have taken white as better example. because there is really no definitive objective white
a) the color people perceive as perfect white does change from person to person, what is perfect white for person A, is bright yellow for person B.
b) the color you perceive depends on the colors around that spot.
c) so in color theory they define "white points". differend modells have diferent white points.

"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cat_Russian_Blue_004.jpg";

Now is this a black cat or not? Well it does have white spots, gray spots... after how many white spots is a cat not black? etc.

You still do not get my point however. I wanted to express that there IS a social concept of "black" or "white" even if not every case can be 100%-ly defined.

So porn avatars are okay, when they are taken from award-winning movies?

Re: Definition

Porn avatars from very popular award-winning movies can possibly have a more entertaining reaction than offensive. Haven't seen examples of those though, all the penis avatars (except some fake/drawn ones) seem clear trolling; some vagina ones are obviously chosen because they cause a more offensive reaction than sexual.

From the new players, this one could be an example of mirthful (amusing): http://aplayr.com/user/money%20grabber/

I believe the avatars that *have* been banned were porn avatars intended to provoke an angry response, so that's the definition I put down. It agrees with one of your earlier comments. However, unless there's a huge change, arguing against amusing/sexual avatars is a waste of time.

Anyway, how does ad block work? Blocks all avatars and then let you choose which ones to see? imo that's an inconvenient but only possible way to keep your kids/work away. But there doesn't need to be another game site that bans porn.

I still like the idea where selected offensive avatars default as the dead smily and people in game can still just click to see them.

I'd wish for a totally no avatars feature!

This way a user can choose to not see any avatars in his profile if (s)he wants to.

Parents can set this for their kids.

You don't even need Adblock for absolutely no avatars, just right-click one n' select "block images from img.aplayr.com"

"a) the color people perceive as perfect white does change from person to person, what is perfect white for person A, is bright yellow for person B."

Irrellevant. Some people are blind. It doesn't change what seeing is. A color reflects certian wavelegnths, that human eyes aren't perfect is not an issue.

"b) the color you perceive depends on the colors around that spot."

An optical illusion, the same wavelengths of light are reflected regardless.

"c) so in color theory they define "white points". differend modells have diferent white points."

Fancy that. Not sure what that has to do with actual whiteness, not some theorectical business.
Now is this a black cat or not? Well it does have white spots, gray spots... after how many white spots is a cat not black? etc.
Leese, it does seem to have some areas of black fur, though it's likely just a dark brown, in the end. Other areas are much lighter, however. Perhaps a mottled cat. Patchy, even. *shrug* Not as though there's much a cat can do to the specifically defined meaning of black. Unless, perhaps, it's a cat of the Schrödinger variety. You never know what's with those. :p
