Flags, surrender and away people

I noticed that the latest 2 ideas deal with this.
<a href="/kdice/kdice/ideas/if%20you%20surrender%2C%20you%20can%27t%20come%20back%20in/"> If you surrender, you can't come back in </a>
<a href="/kdice/kdice/ideas/if%20you%27re%20away%20for%20more%20than%203%20or%204%20turns%20you%20can%27t%20come%20back%20in/"> If you're away for more than 3 or 4 turns you can't come back in</a>
The guy that posted them is confused, but how can I blame him? There are no written rules of how this things work.

- why flag up does't mean surrender?
- when is a player considered away? what's the effect on refills? how is this related to lags etc.

These thigs were partially discussed here and there let's collect the answers on this thread.

For me flag means - I will not fight for the first place, I will not attack the leader (first player), and I would like the game to end in the present state. I would expect the leader not to attack me.

... it depends on the situation, cleopatra! You´re right, but sometimes it´s not the leader, but the 2nd or 3rd, if he isolated you!

Of course life is more complicated than my simple rule and often the context must be taken into consideration. I would say more generally - flag means - I am out of the "great politics". I still may try to influence my local situation, but here also I understand that the-last-second flag manipulations for small gains are often pathetic.

But what is important for me - flag is the clear promise to the leader - "For sure I will not attack you at all"

MAGNUS's first post is right, flagging is nothing to do with saying ur giving up, if u dont attack weak ppl because there flagging then thats stupid.
it is purly a way of ending games quickly when one person has obviously won rather than having to play it out.
often the leading player(s) will not attack flagged ppl because they know if they kill off the other ppl they game will finish

Flags only mean surrender if everyone flags and the game immediately ends. A flag really means you stop trying for first - and now are ready to squabble for 2nd or 4th or whatever you can get.

Also, might is everything. A person in first with 10 lands vs 9 in second place should not really believe flags. A person with 22 lands should. The reason flags don't mean surrender is because the player is not removed from the game, their lands can still be taken. And there is a vast difference of asking for mercy when you have 4 stacks and everyone has 8s looking to get stronger, or if you have 8s in a corner and just want to hide.

A player is considered away when they have that away banner up and dont move for several rounds in a row - always be careful though, never fully trust someone is away.

Away = refills are normal for two rounds, then no more refills are added and +dice stop accumulating.

It's related to lag cuz if you lag out of your turn you automatically go away. It sucks if your browser has a problem or something and you can't get back, but usually even with lag people only miss a turn or two, tops.
