No, it wouldn't necessarily be easy - Ryan would have a queue of profiles to check, then he has to ban (ok, that should be a one-click thing), but then the person will just register a new account, and people who get off on doing such things will be more determined to come back again and again to cause more havoc, making more work.

The only long term solutions may be profile poster banning, which may or may not put a strain on the db, or "profile moderators." Mods can take a long time to set up (many initial mods are sycophants who will actually be terrible, or they end up cracking up with power after a little while).

I'm just being pessimistic because I've seen enough forums struggle with these issues. SA, one of the most popular forums on the net, went through years of shit with this (seriously, mods went nuts!).

Ok, just thinking before I hit post - maybe Ryan can do simple account settings, where you can put it to only accept comments from friends, or accept all. Secondly, a delete comment link could be placed right in the main page, instead of having to go into "edit profile."

Oh, and as I think more, in order to do effective banning, Ryan would need to (and he maybe should anyhow) set up an email verification system. Right now its only purpose is as a user id. A troll could just keep making new accounts all night like [email protected], [email protected], etc. By forcing a simple email reply system, you'd limit the ability for trolls to re-register.

XicaDaSilva- I do not agree with you on banning people. If we ban people for slurs, then we can ban people for swearing, and it's a breath of fresh air to find a site that allows that.

accountx3- obviously someone who calls someone else gay on here is not giving them a compliment on their personality, so the original dictionary definition doesn't apply here.

When we make admins the moral police, it becomes a slippery slope. When we discourage that kind of behavior through social means, it empowers the community.

I also don't care that The Plough wrote "what a gay" on my profile. I'm leaving it there because I think it says more about him than me.

I hope this is making more sense to people. There's more than two extremes: banning and acceptance. There's middle ground, too.

The name for the banning idea should be racial/homophobic slur. Anyway, I consider these more serious than the cursing and trash takling (which I don't encourage either).
