"You're so gay"

I am so tired of hearing people insult others on here by calling them gay. It's unnecessary and disgusting behavior that should be stopped. C'mon, people, aren't we a little more creative than that? I'm not saying we should ban the word; that would not accomplish anything. I think we should band together and decide that, as a group, homophobic insults will not be tolerated. I've been told that it's only a phrase, and that it's just used, but that doesn't excuse anything.

Any thoughts?

Well, in rereading my missive, I should have specified that getting uptight over calling dice or someone's garage "gay" is really...gay?

But yelling to a person that they're a fag or whatever is an annoying thing that says a hell of a lot about the person. But I'm sick of these threads. You can remove comments from your profile, and you can /mute people. What more do you want Ryan to do?

Some people didn't get the memo.

It's a schoolyard taunt meaning 'wuss,' and unless you're telling me that the dice are gay, it was not applied to a gay person."

Notice how I didn't suggest banning the word. I said that it should not be tolerated. Social pressure would be much more effective than a ban. But since it seems that people are okay with it, I guess I'll just suck it up.

For me there is hugh a difference between.
"this is gay"
and
"you're so gay" (ment as stupid insult)

If we were to talk *only* about what is said in the chat than I will agree. But, when the offending remarkes are posted as signed messages on others' profiles it shows not only poor taste but also premeditation. These people can than be easily banned.

"The Plough" posted this message for you "what a gay"

"The Plough" is also the autor of these 3 spam ideas:
-Points for not killing someone
-There should be a dont mute button
-There should be a coffee break after 10 mins of the game.

For spam you can't really call for banning him, but for the message yes. It will be like putting in jail a criminal for tax evasion ...

o/~ You're so gay...you probably think this thread is about you... o/~

Ahem. Anyway, Xica, I know, that's why I did make the distinction. I still don't know how policing it would scale. Ryan would be going nuts trying to ban these people, and it's too trivial to make more accounts. Plus you can't IP ban because you'll be banning tons of innocent people. Perhaps Ryan could spend the time in one shot and add a "ban this user from my comments" option. There is an idea to only allow friends to comment, but that'd stink because you'd be throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Banning can be very effective and easy.
Delete account is a good start, these players try so hard to win that losing makes them blaming and offending people.

Also, there are not that many, but they just make a lot of noise.
