Strategy Discussion Revival

I was just thinking about strategy and this current scoring system, the current players, and whatever other factors are involved in strategy. I brought this up since I noticed my playing style is very sloppy as of recent, and, I was wondering what others have to say as how they approach their game.

As with the old scoring style, where you played for position, and now, you play for what seems like winning position (consistent w/ most territories and longevity) So, what skills or tactics are useful

(P.S. The wiki seems more like a handbook, and this is a discussion and review of specific ideals concerning gameplay)

i disagree with all of you. the key to winning this game is trucing with #1, and then finding the right time to break that truce.

Grun,

No doubt that focusing on one foe can result in that player having a vendetta against you and if they get a lucky restack, they'll rip you to shreds. However, for the most part, it is advisable to not start a war on multiple fronts if you can avoid it.

A couple more tactics along those lines:
1) If you are strong enough to crush one opponent, do so.
2) If you can play nice with an adjacent opponent of relatively equal strength for a while (without an official truce), do so, but make sure that opponent doesn't get the upper hand on you with a big dice reserve - otherwise, you will be in deep trouble when they decide it is time to do a sudden massive attack on you in one turn.

A couple other tactics. I generally avoid proposing truces (except to fight back a clear number one), and don't accept them too quickly unless it really gives me a distinct advantage. I also seldom accept truce requests if I am number one. The only times I am more agreeable to truces is when I am stuck in the middle and am being consistently attacked from multiple sides or when a counter truce is the only viable way to survive/win.
