Even after the reset its very hard to get a high rank. I have played 7 games after the reset winning 3 and coming in 1st-3rd 5 times. Still my rating is a .006 rounding to a .01 while someone like riser has played 5 games coming in 2nd, 3rd, and 7th 3 times and has a 1.57. I don't think this is how it should be

at 2:06 PM, Sunday April 1, 2007 EDT Riser had an elo up in the 2100s for a few games. He's been in the top 5 of rating for a while.
That is the point of the system. It is not about getting a 1st or 3rd, it is about climbing in rating. Riser has won a LOT of games to get to 2100s and 2000s of elo, and THAT is why Riser gets rewarded with significant values. Don't look at it like this... that you need to play a ton of games to catch up. You dont. You need to accumulate points in rating so that you get to the 2000's and 2100s. Then you'll get 1.57 in a few games and jump a ton of places. Make sense? Riser deserves to be a top player right now because long term - riser has won a lot of games to get to a very high rating. |

at 3:19 PM, Sunday April 1, 2007 EDT Score (0.00) got to be rather high last month. The bar was set at 36 points for first place, and top 3 had 30+ and 20+ points. Now there is a reset. All values of score are reset to 0. Obviously, it is significantly easier now to get to the top spots.
Essentially, to get to the Top Players list a player needs to be a top player. How do you do that? Win games and climb in rating. Get to the highest table. Then win there and get to 2100s and 2,000s of rating. The reason there is not an elo reset of rating is because rating is supposed to be a long-term indicator of skill at the game, more or less. 1800 players tend to be better than 1700 players who tend to be better than 1600 players, etc. So once the reset happens, the better players are in position to climb the most, yes. But that is because they are the better players. The reason that reseting elo to 1500 would not be too wise is that then good players would have to play a lot of games to climb again. Alright, so it's no big deal they should have to prove they can and should be up there at the high tables, but NOT DROPPING off the high tables is an equal indicator of talent. I don't know, it's impossible to please everyone, but I think this monthly reset idea is fair. |
