It's a neat idea, and could still have monthly medals.

The monthly medal thing still is a nice idea id say.

I think the plan is monthly reset of scores (0.00). That way people can get on the top players list and it doesnt get too out of reach. Also, the medals will be awarded at the end of each month for the top 100 places - so that's pretty cool as a reward for having done well in a particular month.

As for this new idea, it doesn't really differ much from the one Ryan is planning on doing - and the one he plans to use is a little more streamlined and easy to understand.

I guess my major con with this last 30 days idea is that if someone has a great spurt and gets to #1 elo and gains 8 rank in a day - then manages to stay in the top spot for a while. As soon as the 30 days are up they no longer have that one day that added 8 to their rank so they drop significantly or completely off the top 25. That will be kind of weird cuz no one remembers exactly what they won on what specific day - and the top 25 would have sporradic drops of people completely out of the top 25. For example, someone could be 3rd then completely drop off the next day, because it was 31 days since the day they got a ton of rank score and now they dont have it.

Basically, this idea proposed and the one Ryan intends to do are extremely similar, but it's far easier to understand "ok - monthly resets of score and medals for top 100" than it is to have a system of the last 30 days, which can be quite confusing.

Sounds good. Basically, top 100 receive a medal every month before each rank reset?

And ratings always stay?

the 30 day idea for the most part has 2 major advantages as i see it:
There is no pointless race for early lead in the month. Since everybody starts the new month with 29 days of score of the last one the top25 page becomes alot more informative about who is actally good and wont show who just decided to sit on his high elo until next month.
I mean people could still try to use that as a kind of guerillia tactic at any time but noone has to deal with seeing such shooting stars in top25.

The 2nd Major advantage i see in the 30 day rule is it allows for more analytical tweaks and rewards.
for example it allows to give a not permanent trophy to whomever was able to hold scorelead for the most consecutive days.
Naming tables after those top players would mean to name them after succesful players who actually proved their skill.
You could award every month the best newcomer to the top25 which has risen from the lowest last month score into next month.
It allows to make the game more rewarding for certain aspects of the game.
It would allow kdice to become something like a Tour de france of dicewars.

And that idea fascinates me.
Of course its still up to ryan and im pretty
sure this month will be a simple score reset but i wanted this quite educated forum know my humble ideas about the matter.

you are right those drops could happen.
but except for someone stopping playing at all for a while it will merely show your performance with a decent delay.
thats all.
Its not that hard to explain.
The more the month advances though the more the score will evolve towards what would have been the ranking with a all to zero reset without the imho pointless race at month start.
which render the top25 page in that time of the month useless and saying nothing about who is actually best or not.
