Ryan ... The game is becoming more & more unbearable only because of LIVIANT ... I don't think it is only me who thinks that . The game is becoming more & more popular maybe and there is more & more lag . Which means i get to skip like 3-4 turns in a row not understanding what is happening because i lag . Im gonna boycott if this keeps on ...

Lags have probably cost me 2-3 games last night. I was either #2 or #3 when the lags occurred. And when I was back, I was dead.

The lags have been worst than before. In the past, it would not happen after you refresh your browser. Now, they kept happening even after you refreshed. As well, there are times that refresh would do anything. You have to close your browser, and log in again.

Lags also happened on gpokr. I once had a pair of aces and was forced to forfeit the round because of the lag.

I wouldn't blame Liviant. They are a generous company that has donated a powerful server.

However, they have noticed some issues with their current bandwidth provider and this Saturday morning they will move this server to a new bandwidth provider. This may solve some lag issues that may have been with the current provider.

The other lag issue would be caused by traffic hitting the database. This is why you see limited forums, and ideas, and stats. I'm working on a new database schema that should be able to take the load better.

In short, I know about the issue and I'm constantly working to improve things.

MasterChe: boycott? are you sure this is the word you mean? It sounds like a threat. Why not just check back in a few weeks to see if things have improved.

You realize a boycott wouldn't do much, of course? They'd be replace in somewhere from a few minutes to a week's time.

I'm sure he didn't mean boycott in the threatening sense - just to walk away, which would still be unfortunate despite the influx of new users, who also might not stay if the lag isn't fixed.

Ryan, this new lag is indeed a new animal. It hits whole tables or parts of tables or individuals often. I haven't played a single game in the last two days (30 games) where at least one player (usually more) lagged out EACH round. During at least 10 of those games i found myself refreshing more than once PER round - a feat i hadn't previously thought necessary. This was from two very different connections, which I checked for latency and were otherwise doing fine.

I do believe you may have a feedback loop here - i have to assume that refreshing draws on the server with a web app like this, and if there is enough lag to cause people to refresh more, that bump in bandwidth will gum up the server even more - etc. Regardless, this lag is not like what we experienced last fall - when it seems the whole game would go down - it is much more frequent, and seems to affect individual tables or parts of tables instead of every match going on at the time. Also, back then you used to reset the server and all was well.

If the Saturday changes fix this, all the better, but for the sake of the kdice community I hope you have time to look at the netcode or server configuration and see whether they might be part of the problem.

While I'm at it - can you move my stars from the hbergeron account to this one - i like to show i donated so that i can encourage new folks to do the same (hard to do when it looks like i haven't donated.)
