I had 3/4 of all territories; Yhen a major lag happened. There were 2 other players in the game. One with 3 lands who was respectfull and apparently didn't attacked me during my lag. The other idiot with a picture of a frog attacked me over and over again.
Shoudn't he had flagged? I had to when i was back in the game! What's your opinion? And what's the bastards name? I've forgotten. |

I had almost the whole board, the other had 4 fields left. I lagged out, and when it was on again, the board was 50/50... I did won at last by luck, but the other admitted, it was kind of cheap... |

at 10:17 AM, Tuesday March 20, 2007 EDT If he had no way of knowing that you were lagged out, he may have thought you left. In which case, it was reasonable to attack. Get a better internet connection, and lag won't be a big issue for you. I have never had lag problems that were significant enough to cause what happened to you, so I'm guessing it is your ISP or internet connection.

at 4:10 PM, Tuesday March 20, 2007 EDT I still attack , no matter what's going on. If you've got lag, well, deal with a possible loss. It's absolute shit if you do lose, but, take a deep breath, and move on. Unless I am surrendering, there's no reason to stop attacking in a game.

at 10:05 AM, Wednesday March 21, 2007 EDT I've been trying not to respond to most of the crap posted lately but, "Get a better internet connection, and lag won't be a big issue for you." just piles it a little to high
I have a 20Mb down/2Mb up connection at home that NEVER lags during high bandwidth fps. I access over a T3 linked lan at work. Lag in kdice is NOT a product of the users internet connections. Hell, even barring personal experience, the fact that entire tables often lag together is evidence enough. Unless you're suggesting that we all get "sympathetic lag" when one of our tablemates goes down. Hey, I support Ryan more than most - I've given $20 to help keep this thing going (though I hope ad revenues are doing that now) but don't go around blaming users for a problem that is squarely at the server/netcode end. |

at 10:59 AM, Wednesday March 21, 2007 EDT The thread title refers to 1 v 1 battle when lagged. This happens at the end of the game, not the beginning, so the other player is not likely to have just walked away. The courteous thing to do is simply end your turn and keep doing so until the other player returns. Your reward is +32 dice, and the other player will likely get +32 dice if you were roughly matched to start with. Then resume fighting when the other player has returned.

My speculation that an individual's internet connection is the problem may not be correct in all cases of lag, but I do believe that in at least some cases it is the most significant problem. When I have played on a slow connection, I have had more lag problems. When I am on my normal cable internet connection, I have not had major problems with lag, and have only had a few occasions when it seemed that everyone at a table was experiencing lag. The most obvious and easiest problem to check first is an individual's internet connection. I did not suggest that it was the only potential problem, and I never "blamed" users for the problems they were experiencing, as you suggested. I was only suggesting one possible solution based on my experiences. |
