The social Element.

Hello there fellow friends, enemies, PGAs, PGEs, occasional trucers and helpful natures.

For those who arent able to get all the implications out of (1) I'll line out some important points. And i really dont give a shit if ou care or not. If you got nothing to say on the matter dont say anything in this thread.
Tell it to my profile tell it to your fridge or your girlfriend, tell me in chat. But leave this thread alone with insignificant points.
The PGA thread brought some matters that are kinda important to speak about but the thread itself got another purpose alot too much of fuzzycat in it and gotten a bit out of hand.

So what i was about to state is about the matter of social bounds.

And it pretty much breaks down to the level of:
This is an online Multiplayer game if you cant live with the implications go play dicewars.
That statement carries a long way and is used quite regulary for the truth content in it BUT.

I feel the need to add a thing or two for those of you who still didn't get the point.

First of all:
Game Theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_theory)(1),
as in most other matters of life, applies here.
If you're not willing to accept that you better get a decent rope and a chair soon.

Secound of all:
I know that i know nothing.
People play their own games with their own targets to achieve. Don't expect them to be the same as yours.
I've played like 2000 games here so far and I've seen and/or
played alot of them.
Some of them might be: Elo-rating, scoreranking, allornothing, "having fun", messing other players games up, an asthetic color distribution on the map, "pheonix", avoiding real life, getting laid, ...
this results in more than one strategy.

3rd of all:
I love elite tables.
As in point secound you see that you can do alot of bullshit in the game.
Which is OK. Its fun.
But. This is one thing you really dont want when you feel like seeing your name on the top players page. Thats where eloranking caps get important.
They are not so important because you dont feel like putting so much of your elo on the table as in unrated ones. Its that you assume others to play for score too therefore they are that bit more serious about the game that you need to maintain fun in the challenge.

So much for that.

Ok guys this is getting too long. I've already written a nice and short of it but server didnt feel like saving it... I'll probably continue when i feel like it.

Brilliant post, glad to see that some common sense still exists around here.

Pretty cool post.

But uhh... Now what? DO we discuss it? Does the thread just skip right to the inevitable position of discussing fuzzycat, as all threads must eventually come to?

MadWilly should have resisted attacking me in his post, if he didn't want to discuss that in this thread. Since this "oooh evil fuzzycat, doesnt fit into anything else he wanted to say in the post". But thats just him, stupid decission.

Ah, you would've posted here anyways. I figure you posting is the most conducive to you being discussed. Since I have yet to see an objection to this course of action, it will be so.

Actually I properly wouldn't have.

Sure, sure. Too late to regret your actions now, fuzzycat, you've doomed us all.

On Topic:

I would advice people instead of just playing online with strangers to get some real social skills and some real friends.

Look when we play classic bord games, you know the old fashioned way, meeting at somebodies house eating chips, drinking wine, playing settlers of catan, ticket for ride or even risk (altough seldom)... we have a good time.

1st: There is NO ELO involved, still having a lot of fun...

2nd: Altough all are friends, some better, some even spouses "PGA" would be inherently frowned upon. Try it with your friends/family I really guess they will hate you, if you secretly team up with another. If you continue, you will propably not been invited anymore.

Got it?

Oh fuzzycat.... ^^ .....

the kdice-world isn´t "somebodies house" where you´re playing with a small bundle pf friends...

it´s a own world with more then 30.000 players! That´s a different!

And there are still different strategies to play this game, with different goals like MadWilly described them.

As example I try to explain you MY strategie - and I use it while I´m playing with friends as wel when I´m playing alone with unknown players:

I´m a strategic player and teamworker - I´m looking if my neighbours are a danger for me, or if they could help and support me perhaps against a stronger player. If this is the case, it´s not helpfull to destroy them or to weak them hardly! But this is risky - often they start to fight me instead of looking together to the strong enemie.
And yes - I´m looking out for this with the beginning of the first round!

But so long there is the risk, that my neighbour don´t get my idea to fight together, I´m happy to meet other players, who are as sensible for these situations then me!
And if we played a bundle of games together, then we´re friends! And of course we´re happy to meet another player with the same strategie as ourselves! So of course we will play together if there is a chance to do this!

Otherwise we have a higher risk in some games with this strategie, because we attack our neighbours later, and they have the advantage of having a "peacefull" neighbour, who they may took out easily. So the advantage of playing in the so-called "PGA´s" is only a compensation to the handicapp in other games...

AND of course there is still the social aspect of sympathie in this game... There are some players I like a lot, and other players which I "hate"...

SO - thank to MadWilly to open this thread!
In the last weeks this forum wasn´t really balanced with the different oppinions...
